Theater and film classes take on new form.

The usual suspects are all still in the game, but the three amigos of theater are flying a slightly different flag, taking performance art into the realm of a business with the Mountain Studios.
Still associated with the Teton Arts Council individually, Mel Flynn, Ryan Gillentine and Deneen Frazier Bowen are instructors who have all had their hands in various projects over the past few years. They are all educators who have been teaching acting and film classes in Teton Valley to a variety of age groups.
With the ultimate goal of hosting film screenings and plays, Flynn, Gillentine and Bowen will ease into their role at the Mountain Studios by offering a variety of services for Teton Valley’s growing art community.
A prime mover in the local world of Improv, Flynn will offer six different acting classes for toddler to adult. These classes are designed to help gain confi dence while learning the basics of acting. Taking advantage of space in the Driggs Community Center, a pair of classes for preschoolers is planned for Fridays Feb. 19 to April 26. Hour-long sessions for 2 and 3-year-olds will require the presence of a caregiver and run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A second preschool class is offered for 4 to 5-year-olds from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. where no caregiver’s attendance is required.
Drop in rate for the latter classes are $7 per child and an additional $3 for each additional sibling. As series rate paid in advance will be $30 per child and an additional charge for each sibling. Flynn will also offer Act I, II and III for older kids at the Driggs Kindergarten Auditorium on Tuesdays from Feb. 9 to March 16. These classes run 45 minutes, an hour and a hour and a half respectively, costing $70, $80 and $90 respectively. The Act I class is for Kindergarten to second grade-aged kids; Act II is for third through fifth grade, and Act III is for sixth through eighth graders.

A little further down the line, Gillentine is planning a six-week introduction to filmmaking, taking students from script to screen, learning everything that lies between. Scheduled for Thursday evenings from March 4 to April 15, classes will run from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Cost is $150 for the series geared for everyone 12 and over.
Starting Tuesday, Feb. 16, Flynn and Gillentine will combine forces to offer Adult Improv classes from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Sulli Studios in Driggs every first and third Tuesday of each month, charging a flat $3 drop-in rate.
Stay tuned for Public Speaking classes, as well as Teen and Adult acting classes in the future that will be offered by Bowen.
