Victor kicks off holiday season with all the trimmings
November 25, 2009

Turkey bowling, the parade and fireworks, oh my!

If you’ve made plans that take you out of town next weekend, cancel ‘em. The City of Victor is putting the final touches on its annual holiday celebration complete with old favorites and new touches you won’t want to miss.

From breakfast with Santa, to turkey bowling, a live Nativity and the Holiday Light Parade complete with fireworks; there is something for everyone on Dec. 5.

There are some changes and additions to the annual celebration, most notably, turkey bowling. Yep. The city is sparing no expense with this new event.

With pins shipped from the Teton Lanes in Rexburg, and few frozen turkeys purchased through the city funds earned through craft sales and Fourth of July pancake sales, the event will be held on Depot Street between SUBA and the Victor Emporium. Same rules apply, two shots at a strike and you could walk away with a holiday bird.

But before you head to the bowling lanes around 1:30 p.m., start next Saturday with breakfast at the Victor LDS Church with Santa. Stay and browse the rummage and bake sale that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast will cost $2.50 and includes waffles or pancakes, juice and hot chocolate.

If you miss Santa at the church, don’t worry; he’ll be at the Sun Dog Café and Deli for lunch. Sun Dog, located on the west side on Main Street, will host the jolly saint from noon until 2 p.m. and will feature a special children’s menu and an opportunity to have your picture taken with the man in red.

The Valley of the Tetons Library will host a book sale beginning at 11 a.m. at the library running until 5 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m. the library will feature a children’s storybook hour.

Head to Victor City Park on the east side of Main Street around 2 p.m. for a special treasure hunt where everyone is a winner. And if you are looking for the bake potato give away, it’s not at the Timberline Bar and Grill this year. The bake potato give away will be in the Victor Crossroads building at the intersection on Main Street this year.

Get a hot potato starting at 3 p.m. in Suite 101 with all the fixin’s. Decorate you own sugar cookie and while you’re at it, bring a canned good for the Subs for Santa program. While you’re there check out local crafters and a special room that will feature children holiday movies.

While you’re waiting for the Christmas Carol play to begin at Pierre’s Playhouse for the matinee showing at 4:30 p.m., you can find Community Bible Church members next to Local Joe’s hosting a live Nativity scene, warming hearts and hands with a bonfire.

Pierre’s playhouse will be showing a Christmas Carol that day at 4:30 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. after the parade. If you can’t make any of those times, the play opens Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and will also run additional shows the following weekends, Dec. 7, 11, 12, 18, 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the playhouse for $7.

The parade will cruise down Main Street at 6 p.m. Those who are parading should line up ahead of time on Dogwood Street next to the Post Office. Anyone interested in participating in the parade should call the city hall at 787-2940. The parade features local businesses, families and organizations and the key to the nighttime success is hundreds and hundreds of twinkling lights.

Don’t go too quickly because after the parade the city staff will treat onlookers to fireworks.

Anyone wanting to volunteer participates or who may have additional questions about the event may call Victor City Hall at 208-787-2940. See you in Victor!
